HILTON HOTELS FOLLOWS TRUMP’S LEADERSHIP WITH NEW PLAN TO HIRE 20,000 VETERANS & THEIR FAMILIES!
If there’s one thing we’ve come to learn within the first 100-days since Donald Trump became president, is that he knows how to use the “bully pulpit” to get things done.
Regardless of where the media is in their attempt to discredit the administration, the president ultimately sets the agenda, and job creation along with moving the economy, and helping our vets is high on the president’s list of priorities.
The proof is witnessing how the “TRUMP EFFECT” is resonating within the business community and on Wall Street and even on Main Street, as consumer confidence continues to grow.
On Wednesday the Hilton chain of hotels announced their plan to hire another 20,000 veterans and family members, as they did in 2013 when the chain hired 10,000 veterans.
At the time most of the hires were in Florida, Texas and California, which all have large veteran populations, as well as Nevada, South Carolina and Hawaii.
Recently the Bureau of Labor Statistics conducted a study and found the unemployment rate for vets who have been on active duty since September 2001 was 5%, compared to the national average of 4.5%
The study also found that veterans who served in Iraq and Afghanistan have more challenges in re-entering the civilian labor market, in that the many skills they’ve acquired are designed for combat, rather than those skill sets needed for civilian employment.
However, Matt Schuyler, chief human resources officer at Hilton, has devised a unique coding system, tailored for returning vets that match the “Military Occupational Specialties code,” which is simply the job title of what an individual on active duty is assigned.
“That gets the ball rolling helping them to figure out the comparable job set to the skills that they have,” said Schuyler, who said veterans’ skills could land them a gig with everything from security, the front desk and concierge, to engineering, HR, finance and sales.
Currently, more than 300,000 people work within the Hilton chain which has its corporate headquarters located in McLean, Virginia.
Hilton also has given 1,700 free hotel stays to over 1,100 veterans.
How’s that for giving back to the men and women who have served.
