Massachusetts Sheriff Issues Boisterous Order: Arrest Leaders Of Sanctuary Cities Opposing Trump
With approximately 60% of the November vote going to Hillary Clinton, Massachusetts is clearly a red state. Most local leaders are similarly leaning so it stands to reason that state policies will follow that trend.
Boasting at least 11 sanctuary cities, including Boston, its capital, the state is obviously willing to help illegal immigrants. The actions of some officials there cast a light on that assistance this week. Representative Michelle DuBois used her Facebook page to alert illegal immigrants of upcoming raids by Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
DuBois defended her actions but Massachusetts republicans were outraged. The Chairman of the Massachusetts Republican Party, Kirsten Hughes said “Rep. DuBois has demonstrated a complete disregard for her constituents’ safety, and she should be ashamed of these reckless comments.”
Being a republican, a conservative, or even a centered democrat, could be difficult in those circumstances. One sheriff is taking a stance despite the overwhelming odds. He is understandably upset and believes in doing the right thing, no matter what.
Thomas Hodgson is the sheriff of Bristol County, located on the southeastern coast of the state. He spoke to the House Subcommittee on Illegal Immigration this week and had some strong words regarding sanctuary cities;
“If these sanctuary cities are going to harbor and conceal criminal illegal aliens from ICE, which is in direct violation of Title 8 of the U.S. Code, federal arrest warrants should be issued for their elected officials. Our citizens would be safer if we never stopped enforcing immigration law and if we never formed or turned a blind eye toward sanctuary cities.”
The sheriff believes, as many are beginning to see, that these cities “have become magnets for illegal aliens, some of which have violent criminal records.”
Sheriff Hodgson had some thoughts on DuBois’ actions as well. “This is the most outrageous, outrageous example of what is going on across the United States that is undermining my job and every other law enforcement officer in the United States.”
In a statement that supports Hodgson’s, Immigration and Customs Enforcement has said, “Any person who actively incites panic or fear of law enforcement is doing a disservice to the community, endangering public safety and the very people they claim to support and represent.”
Sheriff Hodgson is understandably proud of the work he and his department is doing. With law enforcement around the country standing in defiance of ICE on a regular basiss, the sheriff’s positions are refreshing.
He told the committee that his “correctional officers have become de facto ICE agents and are able to perform all immigration-related actions.”
It turns out that this is not the first time Sheriff Hodgson has offered his support of the president and his policies. In January of this year, the sheriff proposed to send inmates from Massachusetts to help build President Trump’s border wall.
“I can think of no other project that would have such a positive impact on our inmates and our country than building this wall. Aside from learning and perfecting construction skills, the symbolism of these inmates building a wall to prevent crime in communities around the country, and to preserve jobs and work opportunities for them and other Americans upon release, can be very powerful.”
The wall coincided perfectly with the sheriff’s new program called Project N.I.C.E or National Inmate’s Community Endeavors. Sheriff Hodgson wants to focus on rehabilitation rather than recreation. He has said that he will make inmates available to help with rebuilding and clean-up after natural disasters around the country.
“Think of how much good could come of 500 or 1,000 extra hands in rebuilding a community after a disaster, and the inmates would learn valuable construction skills and on-the-job training as part of their rehabilitation.”
Later that same month, the sheriff stepped up yet again. He was one of the first to publically join ICE, under the current immigration crisis, in order to “identify and detain inmates who may have entered the country illegally.”
The sheriff told reporters, “ICE has limited manpower. By having this immediate access, we want to make sure we have every tool in our toolbox to identify anybody who is a threat from being released.”
Massachusetts liberals were unhappy with the sheriff’s willingness to cooperate with federal law. Lead organizer of the Brockton Interfaith Community, Isabel Lopez, said “Sheriff McDonald needs to focus more on what his office is supposed to be doing, which is providing better re-entry programs for people leaving the county jail.”
Given the stunning number of illegals that have been released by law enforcement, in direct defiance of deportation orders, ICE can use any help they can get. Criminals who are found to also be here illegally should be a priority for deportation, not just by the president and ICE, but all of America.
