Senator John McCain has been betraying the Republican Party for the last year in some pretty major ways. He has made it impossible for President Donald Trump to get anything done.
Why is Trump having to battle with members of his own political party? McCain took it even further this week when he launched his newest plan of attack against President Trump and his administration when he made a threat towards Trump’s defense nominees about the Army’s plan to offer mental-health waivers.
It was reported by Business Insider that John McCain made the announcement on Tuesday that the Senate Armed Services Committee could delay President Trump’s nominees for defense positions due to “dissatisfaction” with the announcement that the Army planned to offer waivers for recruits with mental-health conditions.
This decision came after the Army reported that they had lifted a ban on mental-health waivers and said that they would allow people with histories of self-mutilation, depression, bipolar disorder, and drug and alcohol abuse to request the waivers.
Senator McCain didn’t hide his disdain for the change in policy during a confirmation hearing for three of Trump’s nominee’s on Tuesday.
The Military Times reported that McCain stated, “It’s a problem we’ve been having with this administration. We should have been told about this before it showed up in a USA Today article. The Army did not respond to a question of how many waivers, if any, have been issued since the policy was changed.”
The senator has already delayed the nomination process prior to this. He continued on to say that in his opinion the only way to get the Pentagon to provide information was to mandate that defense officials testify in open hearings or stop the confirmation of nominees.
Twitter users went against McCain to make it clear how they feel on the matter, and they are sick and tired of hearing the failed former presidential nominee complain about Trump.
@LouDobbs McCain setting up to kill tax cuts and shaft all of us just to stop Trump

Everybody knows the Tax Plan can be the best and McCain won't vote for it becasue Trump wants it. McCain's hatred of Trump trumps everything. (pun intended)

This week it was reported by USA Today that the Army lifted the mental-health waiver ban this past summer. They will now allow those with histories of self-mutilation, depression, bipolar disorder, and drug and alcohol abuse to request the waivers.
On Tuesday, a confirmation hearing for three nominees was held. During the hearing, McCain spoke about his frustration about the policy change. He stated that he heard about it from the USA Today story. A spokesman for the Army reported to USA Today that the accessibility of more medical information allows for “Army officials to better document applicant medical histories.” With new information, the Army would be able to evaluate the “whole person” when taking a waiver into account.
Since the publishing of the USA Today story, Army officials have debated that they are not relaxing their standards for recruits. Personnel chief Lieutenant General Thomas C. Seamands explained that they had simply lowered the level that waivers for possible recruits were approved.
An Army recruiter explained to Task & Purpose, “Just because they say they are opening it up doesn’t mean they will let anyone in.”
Maybe McCain will think before he opens his mouth and says something negative about the choices of the Trump administration next time.
